Security

The following is a guide outlines security requirements for all passengers departing from Isle of Man Airport and also offers advice to help passengers pass through the security search point as quickly as possible.

Key points to remember

Liquids in Baggage

  • Where possible, put all liquid items in your hold baggage
  • This includes water and other drinks, creams, sprays, pastes, and gels
  • Liquids, gels and aerosols are only allowed in individual containers of 100ml
  • All containers must fit comfortably in one transparent, re‑sealable bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm
  • The bag must be presented separately for examination at airport security

Please note:

  • Any containers larger than 100ml (excluding essential medicines) will not be allowed through the security search point
  • Most liquids of any amount may still be carried in hold baggage

Lighters

  • One lighter per person may be carried through central search
  • Lighters form part of the liquid allowance in the litre bag
  • The lighter must be carried on the person for the duration of the flight
  • Lighters must not be placed in cabin baggage after screening
  • Lighters are not permitted in hold baggage

What Counts as Liquids

  • Drinks (including water, soup, syrup)
  • Creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara
  • Sprays and pressurised containers (e.g. shaving foam, spray deodorants)
  • Pastes (e.g. toothpaste)
  • Gels (e.g. hair gel, shower gel)
  • Any other solutions or items of similar consistency

Purchasing Liquids Airside

  • Liquids can be purchased beyond airport security in the departures area
  • These liquids are subject to a separate screening process

Essential Medicines

  • Essential medicines for the trip may be permitted in quantities over 100ml
  • Items will be subject to authentication
  • Passengers must carry supporting documentation from a qualified medical professional

Baby Food and Sterilised Water

  • Liquid baby food or sterilised water sufficient for the journey is permitted
  • The accompanying adult will be required to verify by tasting

Power Banks in Hand Luggage

  • Maximum of two lithium power banks per person (each under 100Wh)
  • Must be packed in hand luggage only
  • Must not be placed in checked baggage
  • Cannot be recharged during the flight
  • Check with your airline for any additional restrictions

Cabin Baggage

  • Check with your airline for size and quantity limitations
  • Pushchairs, walking aids, and wheelchairs are permitted but will be security screened
  • Laptops and large electrical items (larger than A5) must be removed and screened separately
  • Security staff must follow regulations for the safety of all passengers

Baggage

  • Do not leave baggage unattended at any time
  • Unattended baggage may be removed and/or destroyed
  • Report unattended bags to airport staff or the information desk immediately

Travel Identification Requirements

  • Identification requirements vary by airline
  • Check directly with your airline before travelling
  • Airline details can be found on Flight destinations and timetables

Check‑in

  • Bags will be x‑rayed and may be searched by hand
  • X‑ray machines do not harm wet film
  • Offensive or imitation weapons are not permitted
  • Items such as toy guns, knives, tools, scissors, knitting needles, sporting bats, and clubs must be placed in hold baggage
  • Hypodermic syringes must be removed from cabin baggage unless required for medical reasons

Boarding

  • Check with your carrier for check‑in and boarding times
  • Proceed to the departure lounge once checked in
  • Flight information screens are located throughout the terminal
  • Boarding cards must be displayed to access the departure area
  • All passengers are subject to security screening
  • Entry to the departure lounge requires compliance with all security searches
  • Once airside, passengers may not return to check‑in or arrivals without permission
